From johannes.peterseil at umweltbundesamt.at Wed Aug 7 16:47:24 2019 From: johannes.peterseil at umweltbundesamt.at (Peterseil Johannes) Date: Wed, 7 Aug 2019 14:47:24 +0000 Subject: [Protected-areas@ecopotential.cnr.it] [ECOPOTENTIAL] Catalogue of available in-situ data Message-ID: <3edc9948fa164c3faa7ccf6faa41be16@PCMAIL5.umweltbundesamt.at> Dear colleague, ECOPOTENTIAL focuses with its activities on a targeted set of internationally recognized Protected Areas, blending Earth Observations from remote sensing and field measurements, data analysis and modeling of current and future ecosystem conditions and services. The role of in-situ observations for different use cases is important. This encompasses the monitoring of status and trends of ecosystems/habitats and their characteristics but also to use as input to validate and calibrate derived data products in order to support protected area management. With WP5 of ECOPOTENTIAL together with you as contact in the protected areas we collected descriptions of the protected areas with DEIMS-SDR and linked this information to data products and datasets collected. In addition the ECOPOTENTIAL IN-SITU DATA CATALOGUE was developed as federated metadata catalogue harvesting metadata from a range of data provided by long term observation sites as well as selected protected areas. ISO compliant metadata are harvested from a range of sources, including DEIMS-SDR as central metadata repository, describing mainly long term in-situ monitoring data and biodiversity data. The data are hosted at the different data providers allowing to download data files or using specified data services. Metadata either refer to datasets, data products or sites. Please find attached a poster on the ECOPOTENTIAL in-situ data catalogue. The contents of the ECOPOTENTIAL IN-SITU CATALOGUE can be discovered using the GEOSS Metadata Catalogue https://www.geoportal.org/?f:phrase=ecopotential as well as using DEIMS-SDR (https://deims.org). Despite beiing in its final phase of ECOPOTENTIAL, we would like to review and update information provided on the protected areas as well as on the datasets and data products. This includes the extension of the linked metadata catlogues from the protected areas as well as reviewing information provided via https://DEIMS.org. What we are asking from you? A. If you have a standard compliant metadata catalogue providing metadata to your data, we would like to link your catalogue to the ECOPOTENTIAL IN-SITU DATA CATALOGUE. This would enhance the discoverability and visibility of your data beyond ECOPOTENTIAL. Please provide the following information to enable the harvesting of metadata ? Name of the catalogue ? Short description on the content of the catalogue ? Metadata standard supported (e.g. ISO19115/19139) ? URL of metadata catalogue service endpoint (CSW) or OAI-PMH container ? Name and contact details of the technical focal point The information will be used to link your metadata catalogue to the ECOPOTENTIAL in-situ data catalogue enabling discovery of datasets across the different data providers. B. If you are willing to update metadata on your protected area in DEIMS-SDR (https://deims.org), we would ask you to proceed with this task in DEIMS-SDR. If you need any support, please contact us. a. Please login with user 'ecopotential' and password 'ecosystems_rule!' b. Please review and update information on the protected area c. If relevant, please update metadata on data products and datasets Please send us a short message, if you are willing to provide and update information. We would ask you to complete if possible the work by mid September. In case you need any support, please contact us.
