Dear all 
Thank you all for your inputs!
Please find attached the ECOPOTENTIAL questionnaire for the Synthesis
study and Survey on desired research outputs. This is also on basecamp
ready for download and I attach also this email as Word doc to save. The
questionaire is quite in depth and the responsible ECOPOTENTIAL
scientists should be able to fill in much of the information beforehand,
so that PA specialists only need to answer the relevant Information. 
We need to deliver this in APRIL to the EU as an ECOPOTENTIAL Team.  So
there is some urgency to this.  Please, until 31 MARCH 16, organise a
workshop or an extended interview and send us the results 
(matthias.jurek at unvienna.org  and  aletta.bonn at idiv.de ). 
The interview will be best in person otherwise via telephone/Skype. 
A Workshop/ Interview should be conducted by the responsible science
partner, see below, of each PA. A workshop would take 3 hours, and as an
interview only probably 1.5h.  Try to choose the most appropriate PA
colleagues - i.e. people working with EO data, as well as those working
in ecology and/or communication.  This will help ECOPOTENTIAL in the
long run tremendously. 
The session can be structured in the following way: 
Agenda 

 	* Welcome
 	* Introduction of everyone and their roles in the PA  / in science
 	* Introduction ECOPOTENTIAL and aims  (use ppt from basecamp)
 	* Explain that this survey is to understand users needs and to best
align and communicate ECOPOTENTIAL results so that they can contribute
to actual management and decision making. We have to manage
expectations, though, as ECOPOTENTIAL cannot 'do wonders'. Please agree
that it is ok to fill in this questionnaire. This will
 	* Part 1: Identifying the goals, challenges and management of the PA

 	* Vision and Purpose
 	* Governance and funding
 	* Ecosystem Services

 	* Part 2: Data collection practices and needs - Earth Observation (EO)
and other research
 	* Part 3: Collaborating with ECOPOTENTIAL and communicating results

 	* Collaborating with ECOPOTENTIAL
 	* Communication of results

While you talk - please fill in the questionnaire. It may be useful to
work with 2 people for this.  It may also be useful to record the
session with a Dictaphone, if you want to use additional information. 
We identified at the workshop in Geneva the following case studies and

Dear Ecopotentialists,

One of the aims of the Ecopotential WP4 is to generate Earth Observation 
(EO) products to support activities in several other WPs.

To better communicate with users of EO products, we have developed a 
first form to inform you which data we can provide and to collect other 
requirements from you. This survey will give you an overview of WP4 
capabilities and will also help us identifying existing gaps and 
requirements concerning RS data which need to be addressed to improve 
and support the work in different storylines and other WPs. You can find 
the table in the Ecopotential dropbox:
